The Preservation District Design Guidelines are intended to help preserve the historic character of the Triangle.

All Cherokee Triangle property is located in a designated local preservation district.  All exterior changes including repairs, major landscaping, garages or other outbuildings, demolition, fences, decks, sidewalks, etc. are covered by the  Guidelines.  Before you undertake exterior work, refer to our Handbook to determine how and what you need to do to conform to the Preservation Design Guidelines.  This includes when and how you must get approval from the Historic Landmarks and Preservation Districts Commission, its staff, or the Cherokee Triangle Architectural Review Committee.

The Handbook is a quick reference  by Type of Work, to what is not allowed, what kind of work and material does not require prior approval, what can be reviewed and approved at Landmarks staff level, and what requires ARC review and approval.  Telephone and website contacts are also provided, along with illustrations of the principal architectural styles in the Triangle.
